Foshan's Lecong cluster — where European soft furniture is made.
Chengtai Upholstery was founded in 2011 in Foshan's Lecong district — the same manufacturing cluster that produces the majority of China's mid-to-high end upholstered furniture. The company began producing upholstered dining chairs and accent seating for the domestic market before pivoting to export in 2015, when it secured its first OEM contracts with UK and German residential furniture buyers.
The 16,000 m² facility integrates hardwood frame production, foam cutting, sewing, and final assembly under one roof. Frame timber is kiln-dried on site to 8–12% moisture content before cutting, which significantly reduces the risk of frame distortion after delivery — a common point of failure with cheaper soft furniture imported from China.
74% of production is now exported, with the UK and German residential markets accounting for the majority. The factory holds FR fabric certification to both BS 5852 and EN 1021, which makes it a viable supplier for UK hospitality projects and EU contract specification. COM fabric is accepted across all product lines, with no surcharge on orders over 50 units.
Sample lead time is 21 days from approved drawing, reflecting the complexity of upholstered furniture sampling relative to case goods. Production runs of 100–500 units take 40–55 days FOB Guangzhou.
