The registered address is room 609, building 2, on Jingcheng 2nd Road in Huangjiang town, Dongguan. Sixth floor. That is the address on the onboarding application for Aosibo Adhesives, a speaker-adhesive supplier registered in 2011 with 10 to 50 staff stated — and if you have ever stood in a chemical plant, you know that reactors, solvent storage and drum-filling lines are not on the sixth floor of an office building.
Buyers see that and reach for one of two wrong conclusions. The first is this is a scam. The second is it does not matter, the glue is the glue. Both are wrong, and the second is more expensive. An upper-floor address is entirely consistent with an office, a blending operation or a repacking operation with compounding done elsewhere — a normal, legal, widespread arrangement in the Chinese adhesives trade. What it does mean is that you do not yet know who makes your adhesive, and that question has consequences you will feel in production about eighteen months from now.
This article is about those consequences: batch-to-batch variation, whether a formulation can be adjusted for you, and who you are actually depending on for continuity of supply. All three change completely depending on which of four business models sits behind the same-looking quote.
Four business models, one quotation format
Strip away the branding and adhesive suppliers in this trade fall into four types. They quote identically. They behave nothing alike.
The trading office. Takes your order, buys finished packs from a manufacturer, ships them. Handles no product. Sometimes prints its own label, often not. Adds sourcing convenience, language capability and payment handling. Owns no formulation and controls no quality parameter.
The repacker. Buys bulk — drums, IBCs — of a finished adhesive and decants it into bottles, syringes, cartridges or pails under its own label. The chemistry is somebody else's, unchanged. The value added is pack format, labelling and local stock. This is where a great many "adhesive manufacturers" in the small-pack market actually sit, and it is a legitimate business.
The blender. Buys base polymers, resins, tackifiers, solvents or waterborne dispersions and mixes them to a house recipe. Owns the recipe. Does not synthesise the polymer. Can adjust viscosity, solids, tack and open time within the limits of what the base materials allow. This is the most populous category in the speaker-adhesive trade, and often the best fit for a mid-volume driver line.
The compounder or full manufacturer. Runs reaction or polymerisation as well as mixing, or at minimum manufactures from monomers and intermediates under its own process control. Owns the chemistry end to end. Slowest to change small things, most capable of changing big ones.

That last row but one is the quiet diagnostic. Ask for price at MOQ, at three times MOQ and at ten times MOQ. A flat curve means the cost structure is somebody else's; a curve with a visible step tells you the size of the vessel they mix in, which nobody will state directly but everybody reveals in a price sheet.
The address is evidence, not a verdict
An upper-floor unit narrows the possibilities without settling them. Plenty of genuine blenders keep a sales and technical office in a commercial building and mix in a rented bay in an industrial park twenty minutes away, sometimes under a related company's name. Plenty of compounders list a registered address at a group office while the plant sits in a chemical zone in another district entirely. The registered address on a business licence is a legal registration point, not a description of operations, and treating it as one produces false negatives constantly — the same failure mode that makes telling a factory from a trading company harder than address-checking suggests.
What an upper-floor address does justify is a direct question, asked without embarrassment: where is the compounding physically done, under whose licence, and can I see that site? Adhesive compounding is normally carried out in premises licensed for the purpose, so the answer exists somewhere. In the case of Aosibo, none of that was established at listing, the business scope had not been read against the Chinese corporate registry when the profile was published, and the profile says so rather than filling the gap. That is the correct handling of an unknown, and it is also your cue: ask the question yourself, before the first order rather than after.
The three answers you might get are all workable, and they are all informative:
- "Mixing is done at a site in another town — here is the address, come and see it." — Strong answer. Go.
- "A partner factory produces to the house formula; a visit can be arranged with notice." — Common and honest. Find out whose formula, and whether it can be changed.
- "The office is the company address." — Not a refusal, but push once more. If a second ask produces no production site at all, you are dealing with a trading office or a repacker, and you should price and contract accordingly rather than walk away automatically.
The three consequences that actually reach you
1. Batch-to-batch variation
On a speaker line, this shows up as a spider bond that fixtures in eleven seconds one month and nineteen the next, or a surround adhesive that wets a foam roll differently after a pallet change. What determines whether you can do anything about it is who controls the mixing.
A repacker cannot correct variation; they can only detect it, and only if they test incoming bulk rather than trusting the upstream certificate of analysis. Ask specifically: does your certificate of analysis report properties you measured, or does it transcribe the upstream supplier's figures? The honest answer from a repacker is the second. That is not disqualifying, but it means your incoming inspection is the first real test the material gets, which changes what you should be checking and how often. It is also why the technical data sheet fields matter so much — the handful of numbers that actually predict line behaviour are the ones you should be measuring on arrival, not the ones printed on the label.
A blender controls variation within the tolerance of their base materials. When their resin supplier shifts grade, they can often re-tune the recipe to hold your properties constant — if they know it happened and if they have a reason to bother.
2. Whether a formulation change reaches you
This is the consequence buyers underestimate most, and it is the reason to care about supplier type at all.
Every adhesive changes eventually. A solvent gets restricted, a tackifier is discontinued, a resin plant reallocates capacity, a customer in another market demands a lower-halogen variant and the house recipe quietly follows. The question is whether that change arrives as a notification you can qualify against, or as a Tuesday morning where fixture time has moved and nobody knows why.
- A compounder can give you a written formulation-change notification commitment and honour it, because they make the change.
- A blender can commit for their own recipe. They cannot commit for the base resin behind it, and they may not learn of an upstream change until it is in their tank.
- A repacker can commit to nothing upstream. Frequently they find out from you.
- A trading office is two links away and will learn last.
Ask for the commitment in writing regardless of type — a supplier's reaction to the request is informative even when the commitment turns out to be narrow. The useful clause names a notice period (60 to 90 days is a normal ask), requires pre-change sample material, and defines a change as anything affecting the properties on the data sheet, not merely a change of product name.
3. Continuity — who you are actually depending on
If your spider bond depends on a blend that depends on one resin grade from one upstream plant, your supply chain has a link you have not seen and cannot audit. That is survivable, but only if you know it exists.
The practical test: ask how many separate suppliers feed the grade you are buying, and what happens if the main one stops. A blender who answers "there is a qualified alternate base, three weeks plus a requalification" is describing a real supply chain. A supplier who answers "that will not happen" is describing a hope. Either way, size your safety stock against the answer rather than against the lead time — Aosibo's stated 15-day production lead and 7-day sampling look comfortable until you remember that a lead time measures a normal week, not the week the upstream link breaks.
How to find out, and what to write down
Seven questions that discriminate between the four types
Ask these in one message. The pattern of answers is more informative than any single reply, and it costs a supplier nothing to answer honestly if they are one of the three legitimate models.
- Where is this grade physically mixed or manufactured, and under whose licence? Ask for the site address and whether it can be visited.
- Do you own the formulation, or produce to somebody else's? A blender will answer "house recipe, bought-in resins" without hesitation.
- What is your standard batch size for this grade, and how many batches will my order span? Repackers answer in drums received; blenders answer in kilograms per vessel.
- Does your certificate of analysis report your own measurements or the upstream supplier's? Follow up with which properties are measured and by which method.
- If I need viscosity raised by 20% and open time held, what is the turnaround and the cost? "Two to four weeks and a sample" indicates a blender. "Let me ask the factory" indicates a repacker or trading office. "That would be a development project" indicates a compounder being honest about scale.
- Will you give a written formulation-change notification with a notice period and pre-change samples?
- How many upstream suppliers feed this grade, and what is your alternate?
Two supporting checks are worth running alongside: read the business scope on the corporate registry extract rather than relying on the listing summary, which is the core of any serious supplier verification routine; and if you visit, spend your time on the mixing area, the raw-material store and the retained-sample cabinet rather than on the meeting room — what to inspect in a single day at a Chinese factory applies directly, with the retained-sample cabinet as the adhesive-specific addition. A blender who keeps dated retains of every batch is running a quality system. One who does not is running a warehouse.
What to put in the contract regardless of the answer
Once you know which model you are buying from, the contract terms that protect you are the same three, sized differently:
- Identity and traceability. A named grade code, your own part number mapped to it, and a lot number on every pack. Where the supplier is a repacker, ask that the upstream lot be recorded and made available on request — many can do it and few offer it unprompted.
- Change control. Written notice before any change to the data-sheet properties, with pre-change sample material and a defined qualification window.
- Retains and reference samples. The supplier holds a retained sample of each batch for a defined period; you hold your own qualification reference. When a bond starts behaving differently two years in, those two samples settle the argument in a week instead of a quarter.
Common questions
Is buying from a blender rather than a manufacturer a mistake?
No. For most speaker-adhesive buyers a competent blender is the better fit: closer to your application, willing to adjust a recipe at volumes a large chemical company will not take, and quicker to sample. The mistake is buying from a blender while believing you are buying from a compounder, and therefore writing a contract that assumes control the supplier does not have.
How do I tell a repacker without visiting?
Three signals together are usually enough: a flat price curve across volume tiers, a certificate of analysis that transcribes rather than measures, and an inability to quote a turnaround for a small formulation adjustment. Any one alone proves little; all three together are conclusive enough to price on.
What does an office-floor registered address actually tell me?
That the registration point is not a production site. It is consistent with an office, a blending operation or a repacking operation with compounding elsewhere, and it is also consistent with a real manufacturer whose plant is registered separately. Treat it as the trigger for a question, not as an answer. Ask to see the compounding site even for a small first order — asking early shapes your contract and your incoming-inspection plan, though a visit only repays its cost once annual spend on the grade exceeds the cost of a line stoppage caused by a change nobody told you about.

Send this before you price anything:
- The physical address where each grade is mixed or manufactured, and under whose licence.
- Whether the formulation is the supplier's own or produced to a third party's specification.
- Standard batch size for your grade, and how many batches your order will span.
- Whether the certificate of analysis carries their own measurements, and which properties and methods.
- Turnaround and cost for a small formulation adjustment.
- A written formulation-change notification commitment: notice period, pre-change samples, definition of a change.
- Number of upstream suppliers for the grade, and the qualified alternate.
- Retained-sample policy and retention period — and the registry extract, so you can read the business scope yourself.
