Three quotes come back inside a week, and they land within four percent of each other. That is not a competitive market telling you the fair price. That is three companies pricing the same tool in the same workshop and stacking different margins on top of it.
Finding the actual POS terminal protective case manufacturer, rather than the layer standing in front of it, is worth more than any discount you will negotiate out of that layer. It changes what you can ask for (a parting-line move, a 5-point hardness change, a second cavity), it changes how fast a sample lands on your desk, and it changes who is accountable when 300 units out of 5,000 have flash on the button rim.
The tells that separate a moulder from a reseller
Resellers in this category are competent and often pleasant to work with. The problem is not honesty — it is that every engineering question you ask has to make a round trip, and every answer arrives sanded down. Four tells surface quickly.
They cannot name the tool. A moulder with an existing mould for your terminal model refers to it by an internal mould number and can tell you the cavity count and where the parting line runs. A reseller describes the product. Ask "which tool is this, and where does the parting line sit relative to the card reader slot?" and watch what happens to the reply time.
Sample lead time is wrong for the situation. If a factory already holds a public mould for your exact terminal model, a sample is a short production event: pull the tool, set the press, mould, deflash, ship. When a supplier quotes you ten to fifteen days for a model that is common enough to have public tooling, either they have no tool and are quietly shopping your enquiry, or they are batching you behind someone else's run.
The invoice entity does not match the licence. The proforma comes from a Hong Kong or Shenzhen trading entity while the "factory" you have been shown carries a different registered name. That is not automatically bad, but it is a fact you should know before the deposit, not after a quality dispute. Process questions get product answers. "What is your deflashing method on the button rim?" should get an answer about tooling, trimming and operators. If you get an answer about quality commitment, you are talking to sales at a company that does not run a press.

What a public-mould library actually buys you
The economics of this category are dominated by one question: does a tool for your device already exist, and who owns it?

Two cautions belong here, and both are things to ask rather than assume.
The public model list is not published anywhere. "80+ moulds covering major POS brands and models" tells you the library is deep; it does not tell you whether your specific terminal is in it. Send the exact model designation — not the brand family — and ask for a photo of the existing tool or a part moulded from it before you build a launch date around a 72-hour sample.
A public mould is, by definition, not exclusive to you. Whether any of these tools can be reserved or made exclusive is a commercial question the factory page does not answer, so put it in writing early if it matters. Verify the moulder before the deposit, not after
Direct-from-factory only pays off if the entity you contract with is the entity that runs the press. Five checks, in the order that costs you the least time:
- Business licence, in Chinese, in full. Match the legal name on the licence to the name on the proforma invoice and the bank account. Any mismatch between licence, invoice and beneficiary account needs an explanation before money moves.
- Address that resolves to a workshop. WJM's plant sits on Baolong Street in Longgang District, Shenzhen — 12,000 m² covering silicone compression, plastic injection, the mould workshop and assembly. Put the address into a satellite map and check the building footprint is consistent with the claimed area. An office tower address for a 12,000 m² moulding operation is a contradiction worth raising.

Terms to settle before the PO
Two commercial items on WJM's page are explicitly deferred to the order: lead time is confirmed with the factory per order, and payment is T/T (telegraphic transfer) with terms confirmed per order. Treat that as an instruction to negotiate rather than an omission — but get the answers in writing before you commit a deposit.
- Incoterms 2020, named precisely. Which Incoterms the factory quotes directly is not published. Ask specifically: EXW factory gate, FOB with a named port, or DDP. "FOB China" is not a term — FOB Shenzhen has a specific meaning and a specific named port, and Yantian and Shekou are different loading points with different trucking costs from Longgang.
- Capacity, in your units. Monthly output is not published. Ask for it as "units per month of a part like mine, at the colour count I need" — a general capacity figure is close to meaningless across compression moulding, injection and assembly.
- Order quantity structure. The trading-terms table on the factory page leaves MOQ blank, so do not accept a number quoted verbally in a call. Ask for a written quantity-break table instead: price at each tier, colour count per tier, and print setup treated as a separate line.
- Payment milestones against events, not dates. Tie the balance to a named event you can verify — sample approval, pre-shipment inspection pass, photographed carton marks — rather than to a calendar date that arrives whether the goods are right or not.
Certifications: ask, then verify
This is where accessory sourcing goes wrong quietly. A logo on a slide deck is not a certificate, and a certificate without a number, an issuing body and a validity window is not evidence of anything.
For a POS terminal case programme, the documents worth requesting are: a material declaration for the specific silicone or TPU compound in your part, RoHS and REACH SVHC statements naming that compound rather than the company, a California Proposition 65 assessment if you sell into that market, and — if the case ships as part of a payment-device kit — confirmation of whatever your terminal OEM requires of accessories in the box. Request certificate numbers and issuing bodies, then verify them at the issuing body directly rather than accepting a PDF.

Ask a question only the moulder can answer without a phone call: the mould number for your model, the cavity count, the parting-line location, and the deflashing method. Then ask for a live, unbroken video walk from the mould rack to a running press. Confirm the business licence name matches the invoicing entity and the bank beneficiary.
Does buying direct from the factory cost less?
Not automatically. Direct pricing removes a margin layer, but you take on coordination work a good agent was doing — inspection booking, documentation checks, follow-up on engineering changes. Direct wins clearly when the product needs engineering iteration, because the round-trip on every question disappears.
What should I send with the enquiry to get a useful quote fast?
The exact device model designation, a physical unit or a 3D scan if the model is unusual, your required hardness and colour, logo artwork with a placement dimension, and the destination port. For a device covered by an existing public mould, that package is enough to get a sample moving quickly.
