Verifying that a Chinese parquet flooring manufacturer is a real mill takes about forty minutes on a video call, and none of those minutes should be spent looking at a showroom. Parquet is one of the easiest product categories in China to re-brand: finished panels are bought in cartons, stacked in a 150 m² display space, photographed under warm lighting, and offered as in-house factory production. The margin on that arrangement is 15–30%, it requires no capital equipment, and the photographs are genuinely of real floors. They are just not that company's floors.
The good news is that parquet is also one of the easier categories to verify, because the process leaves physical evidence that is expensive and awkward to fake. Wood has to be dried before it can be cut, panels have to be pressed before they can be sanded, and every stage throws off waste that matches the species being run. A company that only sells cannot produce those things on demand, and it cannot produce them at short notice in the right order.
Below are six checks, ordered roughly the way a plant is laid out. Run them in one continuous walk rather than as a written questionnaire — the sequence matters more than the answers.
Why the substrate question decides everything
Most of the value in an assembled parquet panel sits under the surface. A Versailles panel or a herringbone block is a decorative face on top of a base, and the base is where dimensional stability, joint tolerance and heat behaviour are determined. A company that buys its base panels has outsourced the part of the floor that actually fails.
So the single most useful question is not "do you have a factory" but "who makes your substrate." A mill that laminates and presses its own base can answer with equipment, a lay-up schedule and a glue spec. A re-brander answers with a supplier's brochure, or changes the subject to pattern choice.

That is a claim you can test line by line with the six checks below — which is the point. A specific chain is falsifiable; a claim to control the whole process is not.
Checks 1–3: the wood before it becomes a floor
1. A drying facility, or a documented drying arrangement
Hardwood arrives wet. Before it can be cut into blocks or sliced into a wear layer it has to come down to a stable moisture content, and for 20 mm-plus hardwood that is a matter of weeks in a kiln, not days. Air-drying alone takes months and does not reach interior heating-season targets.
Ask to see the drying yard and the kilns. Count the chambers. Ask the capacity of one charge in cubic metres and how long a typical schedule runs for the species you are buying — teak, walnut and rosewood do not share a schedule. Then ask what the stock looks like right now: what is in the chambers today, and what came out last week.
Not every genuine mill dries its own timber. Some buy kiln-dried stock, and some send green stock to a contract drying yard nearby. Either is acceptable if it is documented. What is not acceptable is a vague answer. If the drying is outsourced, ask for the yard's name and address and for the drying record that will accompany your lot.
For Anrantabu specifically, timber drying and acclimatisation is named as the first step of the in-house chain, but the number of chambers and the capacity per charge are not published. Ask for both, and ask to see them on camera.
2. A moisture meter, used in front of you, on a board you choose
This is the highest-value thirty seconds of the whole call. Ask the person holding the camera to walk to a rack, let you pick the board, and read it while you watch.
Three details tell you whether the reading means anything:
- Meter type. A pin meter measures resistance between two probes and reads whatever depth the pins reach. A pinless meter reads an averaged field roughly 20 mm deep and can be fooled by a board that is dry on the surface and wet in the core. For thick hardwood, a pin meter with insulated probes driven to core depth is the more honest instrument.
- Species correction. Every meter needs a species setting or a correction factor. Ask which species the meter is set to. If the operator does not know the setting exists, the number on the display is decoration.
- Spread, not a single number. One reading is anecdote. Ask for five boards from different parts of the same stack and note the spread. A tight spread means a controlled kiln; a wide one means the stack was pulled early.
The target moisture content at despatch, and the standard used to verify it, are the numbers you eventually want written into the purchase order. Anrantabu does not publish either, so ask directly: what percentage do you ship at, measured with what instrument, and will that reading be recorded on the packing list for my lot?
3. Offcut piles whose species match what the mill claims to run
Waste is the hardest thing in a factory to stage. Walk the camera to the bins beside the cross-cut saw and the bags on the sander extraction unit, and look at what is in them.
Teak offcuts are oily, golden-brown, and the dust has a distinct smell that the person on the call will confirm without thinking. Black walnut dust is a purple-tinged chocolate brown. Rosewood offcuts are dense, dark and heavy for their size. If a supplier tells you they run Burma teak, black walnut and Sonokeling and the waste bins hold nothing but pale, uniform, low-density trim, the plant is not cutting those species this month — whatever the sample board says.
Two follow-ups: ask what happens to the offcuts (a real mill has a buyer for them, or burns them, or feeds them into inlay and mosaic work), and ask to see the short-length rack. Every mill that cuts hardwood accumulates short lengths it cannot bear to throw away.
Checks 4–6: the plant that makes the panel
4. A press, and a press big enough for the panel you are buying
Assembled parquet panels are pressed. So is any laminated substrate. If there is no press on the floor, panels are arriving finished from somewhere else.
Ask to see it and ask three things: platen size, number of daylight openings, and cold or hot. Platen size is the useful one, because it caps the panel module the mill can actually produce. A platen that measures roughly 1,300 × 2,600 mm tells you what maximum panel dimension is genuinely available, regardless of what the pattern catalogue implies. If you are specifying an oversized Versailles module or a large wall panel, that measurement decides whether the order is feasible in one piece or has to be split.
While the camera is there, ask what adhesive goes into the lay-up and what emission class it is certified to. You are not expected to evaluate the answer on the spot; you are checking whether an answer exists.
5. A wide-belt sander with a working width that matches the panels
A pressed panel is not flat enough to install. It gets calibrated and sanded, and the machine that does it has a fixed working width. If the sander's width is narrower than the panel module the supplier is quoting, the panels are being finished elsewhere.
This check pairs with the press: platen size and sander width should tell a consistent story about maximum panel size. When they do not, ask which one is wrong. The answer is informative either way.
6. A finishing room that matches the finish being sold
Finishing is where the two production models look most different, so it is where a mismatch is most obvious.
A UV-cured lacquer line is a machine: a twenty-metre conveyor with roller coaters and banks of UV lamps, usually behind a partition, usually loud. A hand-rubbed oil finish is the opposite — benches, cloths, buffing pads, a rack where coated boards sit while each coat cures, and a smell of plant oil rather than solvent. Anrantabu describes its flooring as finished with hand-rubbed natural wood wax oil applied and buffed by hand across multiple coats, which means the finishing area should look like the second description, not the first. The number of coats and the cure time before packing are worth asking about in the same breath, since they set the tail end of your lead time. The general rule: whichever finish a supplier claims, the room should look like that finish. A showroom-only operation usually shows you neither, because there is no finishing room at all.
What a trading company's tour looks like instead
None of this is an accusation. Trading companies serve a real function, and some are excellent. The problem is paying mill prices for a trading margin, and discovering at the reorder that nobody in the chain controls the timber lot.

Two paperwork checks that take five minutes
Physical checks answer "does production happen here." Two document checks answer "is the company I am contracting with the company that produces."
Match the entity to the plant. It is common and legitimate for a Chinese manufacturer to hold an older sales or trading licence in one city and a newer manufacturing licence at the production base. Anrantabu is structured that way: 深圳市安然踏步木业有限公司, registered in Shenzhen in 2005, and 安然踏步木业(惠州)有限公司, the Huizhou production entity opened in 2020. That is a normal shape. What matters is that you see both licences, that the manufacturing scope sits on the entity at the plant address, and that the address on the licence matches the address you are being walked around — in this case Yaohua Industrial Park C5, Sanhe Development Zone, Huiyang District, Huizhou. Ask which entity will appear on the proforma invoice and which on the bill of lading, and confirm they reconcile before you transfer anything. Ask for records, not certificates. Any credential a supplier shows you should be verified at the issuing body rather than taken on trust, and the more useful request is for working records: the moisture log for a recent lot, the dimensional check sheet, the finish log showing coats and dates. Records are generated by production. A company that does not produce has none, and cannot invent a plausible one quickly.
A 40-minute verification call, in order
Run it live, in one take, with one camera and one person walking. Do not accept a pre-recorded plant video as a substitute — a walk you direct is a different instrument entirely.
- Ask the person to stand outside and pan across the building and the address plate.
- Walk to the timber yard. Count chambers. Ask charge capacity and current stock.
- Pick a board yourself. Watch the meter reading. Ask meter type and species setting. Repeat on four more boards.
- Walk to the saws. Look in the waste bins. Name the species you expect to see.
- Walk to the press. Ask platen size, daylight count, adhesive and emission class.
- Walk to the sander. Ask working width. Compare with the press answer.
- Walk to the finishing area. Ask coats and cure time before packing.
- Ask to see work in progress that is not yours — someone else's order, mid-run.
- Ask for both business licences and reconcile the addresses.
- Ask for one recent moisture log and one dimension check sheet.

What to ask the supplier next
Take these into the first call and write the answers down. They are also the questions that make a later quote comparable, because they pin the physical constraints before anyone talks about price.
- How many drying chambers are on site, what is the capacity per charge, and if drying is outsourced, to whom and at what address?
- What moisture content do you ship at, measured with what meter and to what standard, and will the reading appear on the packing list?
- What is the platen size and daylight count on the press, and what maximum panel module does that allow?
- What is the working width of the wide-belt sander?
- How many coats of finish, and how many days between the last coat and packing?
- Which legal entity issues the invoice, and does its licensed scope include manufacturing at the plant address?
- Can I see the moisture log, dimension check sheet and finish log for a lot you shipped last month?
